Ms Katerina Pekridou, CEC Programme Officer for Theology and Studies, participated in the Nordic-Baltic Ecumenical Secretaries Meeting hosted by the Christian Council of Sweden. The gathering, held from 27 to 29 January in Malmö, focused on the theme "The Ecumenical Year 2025."
Pekridou contributed to discussions by sharing CEC’s work on Pathways to Peace, an initiative centred on justice, reconciliation, and peace in Europe and beyond. She highlighted how churches are called to witness and promote peace, especially in times of war in Europe. Additionally, she presented CEC’s efforts in public theology, dialogue with EU institutions, and promoting the Charta Oecumenica.
In Sweden, churches are preparing for a significant ecumenical year in 2025. The year marks the centenary of the 1925 Universal Christian Conference on Life and Work in Stockholm. It also commemorates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
The Christian Council of Sweden has named 2025 “an ecumenical year” under the theme "Time for God’s Peace". The year offers opportunities for the Council's member churches to witness and celebrate their unity, engaging with international partners and networks.
CEC’s participation at the Nordic-Baltic meeting reflects its commitment to fostering ecumenical dialogue and supporting its member churches in their shared call for peace and reconciliation.
