The Conference of European Churches (CEC) will hold an online event on 25 September 2026 to explore The Call to Peace, a Bishops’ letter published by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland in 2025.

The letter explores different dimensions of peace and reflects on the Christian calling to peace in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

The event is organised as part of CEC’s Pathways to Peace initiative. It builds on discussions at the European Consultation on Just Peace in Warsaw in December 2024 and the conference Resisting Empire, Promoting Peace in Helsinki in December 2025. The event will explore the context and theological argumentation of the Finnish Bishops’ letter and its relevance for churches across Europe.

Bishop Kaisamari Hintikka of the Diocese of Espoo, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, will introduce the letter, share her reflections and engage in discussion with participants. Bishop Hintikka is one of the editors of The Call to Peace.

The discussion will be moderated by Rev. Frank-Dieter Fischbach, CEC General Secretary.

The event is initiated and prepared by the CEC Pathways to Peace Steering Group. Participants of the Warsaw and Helsinki conferences, as well as representatives of CEC Member Churches, are invited to attend.
