The Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Catholic Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) will hold an online event to further the consultation process of the new Charta Oecumenica on 4 September 2024, from 15:00 – 16:00 (CEST).

The first draft of the updated Charta Oecumenica was approved by the decision-making bodies of CEC and CCEE earlier this year. The draft has been shared with the respective constituencies of both leading bodies with an invitation to participate in the consultation and engage in the process. The consultation process, running from 1 July – 15 October, offers an opportunity to react to the draft and share comments, reactions, and further suggestions to the text. Learn more and access the working draft here.

The online event aims to update constituencies of both CEC and CCEE on the progress in the process of updating Charta and to stimulate the consultation process with the participation of CEC and CCEE presidents and leaders of the joint working group revising the Charta.

CEC and CCEE leaders will offer updated information on the progress of revising the Charta, highlighting key changes in the first draft compared to the existing text, while encouraging participation in the consultation process and inviting reactions

The speakers will be:

  • H. E. Msgr. Gintaras Grušas, President of CCEE
  • H. E. Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, President of CEC
  • H. E. Card. Grzegorz Ryś, CEC-CCEE Charta Oecumenica working group
  • Ms Lea Schlenker, CEC-CCEE Charta Oecumenica working group
  • Moderator: Rev. Frank-Dieter Fischbach, CEC General Secretary
  • Liturgical introduction and conclusion: Sr Estelle M. Sogbu

The event, organised via Zoom, will be hosted by CEC. For technical support and assistance, please contact: Ms Vanessa Barreto barreto@cec-kek.be
