Remembering Roman Juriga

17 October, 2016

With deep sorrow we announce to the friends and networks of the Conference of European Churches and the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN) that our dear friend and colleague Roman Juriga unexpectedly passed away last week. In Roman we lose our longstanding friend and supporter, a colleague who deeply believed in value of ecumenical sharing and an enthusiastic contributor to works on care for creation in his Orthodox Church in Czech lands and Slovakia, as well as through ECEN in a number of other places across the continent. Roman was an initiator and founder of the Orthodox Academy in Vilemov (Czech republic) and one of those who contributed significantly to the foundation of ECEN. Roman was a person of faith, as well as a person of a concrete action. He was contributing to church and secular press in encouraging wide engagement on care for creation, which was for him activity of daily life. Roman used his knowledge and experience in participating in many discussion fora, home and abroad, presentations and lectures, as well as contributing actively to work of ECEN.

We will miss him very much. To watch a short video and photo montage in honour of Roman, please click here.

Please keep him and his family, especially his wife Eva and two young sons in your prayer.

May his memory be eternal!
