The annual Joint Committee meeting of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) will be held from 9 to 11 September 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany.

The meeting will bring together representatives of CEC and CCEE to reflect on key developments in the life of both organisations since their last Joint Committee meeting, with a particular focus on the theme of synodality.

CEC President H.E. Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain and CCEE President H.E. Msgr. Gintaras Grušas, Archbishop of Vilnius, will lead the exchanges at the meeting.

Participants will share perspectives on synodality in the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions. The programme will include contributions on the process, experience, outcome, and follow-up of the World Synod in the Catholic Church, as well as reflections on synodality in the Orthodox Church and in Protestant churches.

The meeting will also include discussion on the reception process of the Charta Oecumenica and consider future steps in the shared work of the Joint Committee.
