The Conference of European Churches (CEC) congratulates Roberta Metsola to be elected as president of the European Parliament. Her support for a structured dialogue between churches, religions and faith- based communities with the European Parliament under Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU) was appreciated deeply by CEC.
“Your interest in and attention to what churches have to say, your readiness to engage in dialogue and your openness are the guarantees of a fruitful and relevant dialogue,” reads a letter to Metsola from CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger and CEC General Secretary Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen.
“In our daily work as Conference of European Churches we focus our efforts in safeguarding space for Christian faith as a legitimate element in the European political discourse and strongly support our Member Churches in achieving this aim.”
“We therefore look forward to continued respectful and fruitful cooperation,” they added.
