Press Release No: 04/25

Brussels
The Conference of European Churches (CEC) has published its Annual Report 2024 Churches Together for Peace, offering an overview of its work and programmatic direction during the past year.
The report reflects how CEC responded to challenges facing churches and societies across Europe, through its initiatives in peacebuilding, ecumenical cooperation, and dialogue with European institutions.
The publication presents key areas of focus, including CEC’s Pathways to Peace initiative, its engagement with European political institutions, and the revision of the Charta Oecumenica. It also outlines the organisation’s work on human rights, communications, and financial accountability.
In his message introducing the report, CEC President H.E. Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain emphasised the organisation’s mission to bear witness to justice and unity. “CEC continued to honour its legacy as a peacebuilding organisation. The 2024 Annual Report shows the many ways in which CEC was called to speak truth, deconstruct violent narratives, and side with justice,” he stated.
General Secretary Rev. Frank Dieter Fischbach, who began his mandate in July 2024, reflected on how CEC is navigating a rapidly changing European context. “This report highlights how CEC is engaging with many of today’s pressing challenges. From Ukraine to Brussels, churches are shaping a theology of just peace while remaining actively present in political discourse,” he noted.
CEC invites member churches, ecumenical partners, and the wider public to read the report and join in its continued commitment to justice and peace.
