A delegation of the Council of Churches in the Netherlands recently met with Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

The delegation brought to attention issues of concern for the churches including poverty and inequality, migrants and refugees, the UN draft treaty banning nuclear arms, and sustainable development and climate change.

Kees Nieuwerth, vice-president of the Council of Churches in the Netherlands presented the Dutch prime minister copy of the CEC document Sharing God’s earth and its riches justly. Nieuwerth serves as moderator of the CEC Thematic Working Group on Economic and Ecological Justice that produced the document for the CEC Novi Sad General Assembly earlier this year.

The meeting took place in affirmation by the Dutch government recognising the churches as important dialogue partners. This invitation was underlined by the presence of all three vice prime ministers and the minister of Justice and Security during the meeting.
