The Conference of European Churches joins the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) in grieving the death of their President, Bishop Emeritus Prof. Dr. Friedrich Weber. His death following a period of illness came just days after the most recent CPCE Council meeting in Budapest, where members were still prayerfully hopeful for his recovery.
“We are saddened by this loss to our ecumenical community in Europe” remarked CEC General Secretary Guy Liagre, “We pray for those who loved and knew Bishop Weber, and that we can honour his commitment to the church and its mission by carrying out the work he left undone.”
CEC and CPCE enjoy close ties, including the secondment of CPCE staff to our Brussels and Strasbourg offices. For more information, please see the CPCE website.
