CEC Governing Board steers programmatic direction in Cluj meeting

28 May, 2025

The Governing Board of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), under the leadership of CEC President Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, met from 22 to 25 May 2025 in Cluj, Romania, to guide the organisation’s programmatic direction.

The Board received comprehensive updates from CEC staff members, and reviewed upcoming initiatives. Discussions focused on the Pathways to Peace initiative, strengthening dialogue with EU institutions, advancing the revised Charta Oecumenica, and exploring new dimensions in public theology.

As part of its local engagement, CEC Governing Board also welcomed representatives of the Lutheran Churches in Romania. Rev. Nimród Végh, representing both the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Romania and the Evangelical Church A.C. in Romania, participated in the meeting alongside Rev. Fr Michael Tiţa of the Romanian Orthodox Church, representing His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania.

A highlight of the visit included an audience with His Eminence Andrei, Archbishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj, and Metropolitan of Cluj, Maramureș and Sălaj. The meeting underscored the value of regional church collaboration and mutual support in advancing the ecumenical mission.

As a fellowship of European churches, CEC remains steadfast in its commitment to peacebuilding, dialogue, and ecumenical cooperation.
