The Conference of European Churches (CEC) has expressed its prayers and solidarity with its Member Churches in Sweden following the recent school shooting in Örebro. In a letter to the Church of Sweden, the Uniting Church in Sweden, and the Christian Council of Sweden, CEC General Secretary Rev. Frank Dieter Fischbach conveyed deep condolences and grief over the tragic event.
“This senseless act of violence has left a community in mourning, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected—especially the families and loved ones of the victims,” wrote Rev. Fischbach. “May the love and peace of Christ bring comfort to the grieving.”
CEC acknowledges the efforts of the Christian Council of Sweden and its Member Churches in providing relief and healing. “We pray that the Lord’s grace will bring hope in the midst of this darkness and guide you as you offer support to those in need,” Rev. Fischbach stated.
Emphasising the Christian hope in God’s presence, he reflected on the promise that a time will come when “all tears will be wiped away, and death and violence will be no more.”
CEC remains in prayer for all those affected and stands in unity with its Member Churches in Sweden during this time of sorrow.
