“While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognising him,” Luke 24:15–16
On the road to Emmaus, the disciples did not recognise Jesus who walked beside them. They spoke of fear, disappointment, and sorrow after the crucifixion.
Many in Europe and across the world carry similar burdens today.
The war against Ukraine, and in the Middle East. Violence and hate in our societies.
A growing sense of uncertainty that unsettles hearts and divides communities.
Yet, in these very times, we are invited to celebrate Easter.
The Emmaus story reminds us that Christ draws near, even unseen.
The crucified and risen Lord walks with us and stays.
In the midst of darkness, Easter proclaims a living hope.
Christ calls us towards peace, reconciliation, justice, and freedom.
We are invited to trust in God’s abundant love, not to give up,
and to believe that the rule of force will not prevail.
Christ is risen! He walks with us.
