The Conference of European Churches (CEC) has extended warm congratulations to its Vice President, Rev. Frank Kopania, on his recent appointment as Bishop of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD). He will also serve as Head of the "Ecumenism and Global Ministries" Department and as Theological Vice President in the EKD Churchwide Office.

In a message addressed to Rev. Kopania, CEC President Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain praised the appointment as a significant step in strengthening ecumenical engagement across Europe.

"Your appointment marks a new chapter in the ongoing journey of deepening ecumenical engagement, and we are confident that your leadership will be a source of inspiration and unity for the Church and the wider Christian community," said Archbishop Nikitas.

CEC acknowledged the valuable partnership it shares with the Protestant Church in Germany, a long-standing member church of CEC. "The Protestant Church in Germany has been a vital partner in the ecumenical movement, and we look forward to working closely with you to build on the strong foundations already established," CEC president added.

The message also paid tribute to Bishop Petra Bosse-Huber, whose previous leadership made a lasting impact on ecumenical cooperation. Looking ahead, CEC expressed full support for Rev. Kopania and his future ministry. "We are confident that your vision, experience, and commitment to Christian unity will bring new energy and insight to the ongoing work of building relationships of trust and collaboration among Christian communities," said Archbishop Nikitas.

CEC assured Rev. Frank Kopania of its prayers and blessings as he embarks on this new responsibility. "May your leadership be filled with wisdom, grace, and the deep peace that comes from God’s calling," concluded the President.

Rev. Frank Kopania has served as Vice President of CEC since 2023, contributing to its mission of fostering peace, dialogue, unity, and cooperation among churches in Europe.
